Da mir die bestehenden Video-Plugins für WordPress entweder von der Handhabung nicht gefallen, unzählige Shortcodes einführen oder keinen XHTML 1.0 Strict validen Code generieren, habe ich mir schlichtweg ein eigenes geschrieben: ich freue mich euch EmbedAVideo vorstellen zu dürfen.

Due to the fact that most video plugins for WordPress have an aweful usability, introduce reams of video shortcodes or are unable to generate XHTML 1.0 Strict valid code, I decided to roll my own. Here is EmbedAVideo.

Wie funktioniert EmbedAVideo?

Mithilfe von EmbedAVideo lassen sich Videos, die bei populären Video Communities gespeichert sind einfach und XHTML valide in deinen Blog einbinden. Das geht ganz einfach:

Möchtest du beispielsweise über das Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZtzoe5GZLs auf YouTube bloggen, so lautet $host „youtube“ und $id ist „XZtzoe5GZLs“.

Welche Communities werden von EmbedAVideo unterstützt?

Zurzeit unterstützt EmbedAVideo:

• YouTube (youtube)
• Viddler (viddler)
• Google Video (google)

Du kannst jedoch ganz einfach weitere Communities hinzufügen, indem du die embedavideo.php editierst. Weitere Informationen dazu findest du in der Datei selbst.

So installierst du EmbedAVideo

1. Zunächst einmal solltest du etwaige andere Video-Plugins deaktivieren um ein gegenseitiges kollidieren zu vermeiden.
2. Danach lädst du dir embedavideo-0.1.zip herunter und entpackst das Archiv.
3. Nun speicherst du die Datei embedavideo.php im Verzeichnis /wp-content/plugins/ deiner WordPress Installation.
4. Log dich als Administrator ein, klick auf Plugins (ganz rechts im Menü) und neben EmbedAVideo auf „Aktivieren“ bzw. „Activate“.
5. Mission erfüllt! Gönn‘ dir ein Eis.

How does EmbedAVideo work?

EmbedAVideo lets you embed videos that are hosted by popular video communities in your regular blog posts. The code generated by EmbedAVideo is XHTML 1.0 Strict valid. You embed videos by typing the following snippet in the article editor:

An Example: If you’d like to blog about the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZtzoe5GZLs on YouTube, the $host is “youtube” and the $id is “XZtzoe5GZLs”.

Which video communities are supported by EmbedAVideo?

At the moment EmbedAVideo supports:

• YouTube (youtube)
• Viddler (viddler)
• Google Video (google)

But it’s really easy to add further communities. Open embedavideo.php with your favorite text editor. You’ll find more about adding communities inside.

How to install?

1. If you’ve got already a video plugin installed, deactivate it in order to avoid collisions.
2. Download embedavideo-0.1.zip and unzip the archive.
3. Upload embedavideo.php to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory of your WordPress installation.
4. Log in as an Administrator and click “Plugins”. Then, next to “EmbedAVideo”, click “Activate”.
5. Mission accomplished! What about some ice cream?
